Red, White and Scouting

We're rolling along here on the Midway as we approach the lunch hour. Overcast skies and cool temperatures have made for great moods and productivity this morning. A lot of photos have just been posted: dig it y'all -- www.emeritbadges.org

Please, please go up to subcamp 11 and take a shot of 1124s gateway. The one with all the car parts.

I would also like to add that your pictures are Fabulous! As a mother of boys who are at the Jamboree, it was great to see some of what they are seeing. Thanks for the extra work!

Some of those gateways are awesome. Do they give out awards for the most creative? You did take a photo of one of our contingent's gateways, Connecticut, but not of my son's troop. I never saw it and am so curious. It is supposed to be a big coffee cup. All the patrols are named after a donut.

It sure is nice to have so many websites that have pictures of the Jamboree. It really lets parents that can't visit at least feel like thay are there. If possible could you get a shot of Subcamp 14.

I thought Boy Scouts were supposed to be into nature and stuff? What's with all the fetishization of authority? Doesn't it creep you out to submit your sons to this blatant militaristic propaganda?

What creeps me out is that people like you are out walking the streets.

can you get a photo of subcamp 20?

the feeling is more than mutual, creep.

lemme guess - you drive around in a big SUV even though the roughest it ever gets is when you go over the curb at safeway.

you've got lots of yellow ribbons on the butt of your gas guzzler to show your support for the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles who are killing and dying in iraq for absolutely, positively nothing.

they are not heroes.

they are victims and dupes.

and the boy scout and its kissy-kissy attitude toward the pentagon (oh goody goody! the president is coming!) is part of the problem.
